In order to make billing, finance allocation, and MDE reporting easier, we link this related information to each student in our system. The three pieces are usually linked to one another, so if you know one, odds are you can deduce the others if you don't have the codes readily available.
MARSS Code
This is the two digit MARSS transportation category that applies to each student. Currently, category values exist from 00 to 08 depending on the type of transportation. Most of the students sent our way fall under 03, 06, or 07 for transportation. There are always exceptions to the rule, however. Feel free to reach out if you aren't sure which code is appropriate.
UFARS Dimension
This is the three digit UFARS number that allocates funds for the student's transportation. Generally speaking, each MARSS code has one or two applicable UFARS numbers depending on the type of transportation provided.
Transportation Category
This is basically what the numbers translate to in English. Knowing what category a student falls under for transportation is generally a strong indicator of what their MARSS and UFARS numbers will be set as in our system.
Reference for all of these pieces of information is directly available to you on your Airtable database under the "MARSS/UFARS Reference" Tab
Looking at the current snapshot of codes, you are able to see the available MARSS, UFARS, and Transportation Categories, and the rows show you which ones are linked to each other.
As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions regarding a student's MARSS or UFARS numbers.
